Feast of the Holy Face of Jesus

"So marred was His look beyond that of man, and His appearance beyond that
of mortals" -Isaiah 52:14

"Imagine that Divine Face: swollen by blows, covered in spittle, torn by
thorns, furrowed with blood, here fresh blood, there ugly dried blood.
And, since the sacred Lamb had His hands tied, He could not use them to
wipe away the blood running into His eyes, and so those two luminaries of
heaven were eclipsed and almost blinded and made mere pieces of flesh.
Finally, so figured was He that one could not make out who He was; He
scarcely seemed human; He had become an altarpiece depicting suffering,
painted by those cruel artists and their evil president, producing this
pitiful figure to plead His before His enemies."

"Behold the Adorable Face of your Beloved Savior, Jesus Christ, O
Christian soul and lift not your eyes without compassion and behold how
much affliction He endures, to seek you, to find you. Open wide your eyes
to behold the Holy Face of Jesus Christ. Hear Him attentively! If ever, in
inexpressible suffering, He utters a word, hide it when you have heard it
as the most precious treasure in the coffer of your heart."

The Promises of Our Lord Jesus Christ to those devoted to His Holy Face

1. I will grant them contrition so perfect that their very sins shall be
changed in My sight into jewels of precious gold.

2. None of these persons shall ever be separated from Me.

3. In offering My Face to My Father, they will appease His anger and
they will purchase as with celestial coin, pardon for poor sinners.

4. I will open My mouth to plead with My Father to grant all the
petitions that they will present to Me.

5. I will illuminate them with My light, I will consume them with My
love, I will render them fruitful of good works.

6. They will, as the pious Veronica, wipe My adorable Face outraged by
sin, and I will imprint My divine Features in their souls.

7. At their death, I will renew in them the image of God effaced by sin.

8. By resemblance to My Face, they will shine more than many others in
eternal life and the brilliancy of My Face will fill them with joy.

Mechtilde and from the writings of Sister Maria de Saint-Pierre, a
Carmelite who died at Tours, France in the odour of sanctity.)

(Dictated by Our Lord to Sr. Marie of St. Peter)
May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and
ineffable Name of God be forever praised, blessed, loved, adored and
glorified in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth, by all the creatures
of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the Most Holy
Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.

"Jesus, Who in Thy bitter Passion didst become "the reproach of men and
the Man of Sorrows", I venerate Thy Holy Face on which shone the beauty
and gentleness of Divinity. In those disfigured features I recognize Thine
infinite love, and I long to love Thee and to make Thee loved . . .
